DANE COUNTY DEPUTY SHERIFF’S ASSOCIATION EXPLORER POST
The Dane County Deputy Sheriff’s Association (DCDSA) sponsors Law
Enforcement Explorer Post #2125. Law Enforcement Exploring is a program for
young men and women who are 14 – 21 years of age. The DCDSA Explorer Post is
trained in activities that deputies routinely perform, such as traffic stops,
crime scene investigations, and interviews. The Explorers are also trained in
more technical situations such as room clearing, high-risk traffic stops, and
traffic crash reconstruction. The Post uses this training to compete both
statewide and nationally against other posts.
The DCDSA Explorer Post has helped with numerous community events. They have
attended the Cops For Kids Concert, The Polar Plunge, National Night Out, and
the Kids Expo. They have also helped with parking at the Wisconsin Law
Enforcement Memorial, as well as several parades and fireworks festivities.
COMPETITIONS
The DCDSA Explorer Post have received many trophies from competitions in
Wisconsin. Explorer competitions are events where Explorer Posts get together
and are graded in law enforcement activities.
In addition to the local competitions, the DCDSA Explorer Post attends the
National Law Enforcement Explorer Conference. This is a bi-annual conference
held in different cities in the United States. The post has attended the National Law
Enforcement Conference since 2006. Most recently they attended the 2014 Indiana
Conference.
The DCDSA Explorer Post also attends the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Academy
held at Volk Field. The Academy is bi-annual and helps prepare Wisconsin
Explorers for Explorer competitions and a career in law enforcement. It is a
week long event with very intense training.
DANE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
The DCDSA Explorer Post has received a tremendous amount of support from the
Dane County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff, Chief Deputy, Captains, Lieutenants,
Sergeants, and numerous deputies have all contributed to the success of the
DCDSA Explorer Post. Many deputies have volunteered their time to work with the
Post, and the post would not have had the success they experienced without the
deputies’ efforts.
The DCDSA Explorer Post utilizes resources from the Dane County Sheriff’s
Office that make Post #2125 unique. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office offers
many specialized units including our Tactical Response Team, Explosive Ordnance
Disposal and K9. Our Crime Scene Lab and Hostage Negotiation Unit have also
conducted training with the Post.
MEETINGS
The DCDSA Explorer Post generally meets every other Wednesday from 6:30pm –
9:00pm, however, we meet more frequently when preparing for a competition. We
routinely meet at the Dane County Law Enforcement Training Center at 5184 Hwy
19 in the Town of Westport (East of Waunakee). The Training Center is one mile
East of the intersection of Hwy 113 and CTH I. We sometimes meet at other
locations in Dane County depending upon the type of training we will be
conducting. In addition to the technical police training we also conduct other
recreational activities to foster team building.
MEMBERSHIP
The DCDSA Explorer Post is a great group for youth to be part of whether
they are interested in going into law enforcement or a different professional
field. Explorers will benefit from numerous career-building skills and will
have fun doing it. The Post has strict rules to teach personal responsibility
and discipline. Explorers also develop many positive relationships with other
Explorers.
If you are interested in joining the DCDSA Explorer Post or helping with training,
please contact Deputy Richard Bennett by e-mail at [email protected].
